Prolotherapy
Prolotherapy, also know as regenerative injection therapy, is an injection technique to repair ligament or tendon laxity which can cause unstable joints which can lead to acute and chronic pain as a result. The injection stimulates a reparative tissue reaction through a localized natural inflammatory process. New connective tissue, collagen, is generated from fibroblasts (like stem cells) at the fibro-osseous junction to provide stability and thereby reduce the pain. Prolotherapy is a simple and safe technique done in the doctors office during an office visit.
Each prolotherapy treatment series is individualized to the patient depending on the chronicity and severity of the condition. Usually within several treatments over 4 – 8 weeks the patient will achieve tissue stability and long term relief of pain. The injection is like planting ‘seeds’ and it takes a bit of time for the new connective tissue to ‘grow’. Dr. Buratovich will also make basic supportive recommendations for diet and natural supplementation and therapeutic exercise for your specific condition to further increase lasting tissue tone and integrity so that the likelihood of a successful response is very good.
